My Bucket List Before I Die

This is my MWS assignment but it's just too nice only be read by my lecturer and classmates. So i decided to share it here in my personal blog as well.
So far, this is the most interesting assignment i have done for this semesters.
20 things i want to do before i kick the bucket.

Did you know that there is book called “1,000 Places to See Before You Die”? Venice's Cipriani Hotel, California's Monterey Peninsula, the Lewis and Clark Trail in Oregon, the Great Wall of China, and Robert Louis Stevenson's home in Western Samoa are just a few places suggested in the book to visit before you kick the bucket. I would love to go to all those magnificent places one day. But for now I would like to share a list of things I would want to do before I kick the bucket. Hopefully I would be around for another fifty to sixty years time to do it all.

At the top of my pre bucket kicking list is to go for tons of live concerts. The only concerts I have ever been to were only school concerts and it makes me feel like a teenage failure to have never been to a real life singer’s concert. So I promised myself that in the near future if there is a singer I like that is coming to Kuala Lumpur, let it be Lady Antebellum, Secondhand Serenade, Chris Daughtry, Avril Lavigne, Bruno Mars, or even Justin Bieber, I would not care and would definitely go see them. I would love to go see Korean artists as well since I have recently been pulled into the K-Pop madness. I have my eyes on BEAST, TaeYang, 2AM, 2PM, and the most recent JYJ.

Number two, I want to have a job in film productions in the future after I graduate from UCSI. I am majoring in Film and Television so obviously I have a passion for film making. The thrill of making pictures and words into a live character is just amazing. I love to make videos and even though I am bad at ordering people around, I still love to be the one doing the final touches on the film. I have heard that it is hard for a female to have a strong career in film making but this is what I love and it would be mind blowing if I can be a part of it.

Number three, I want to get over my fear of stage fright. I always tell myself before I present something in front of a crowd, “I have done this before and I can do it again!” I would feel very confident in myself and would believe in these words for the next couple minutes. But after as I stand before all those gazing eyes, I will slowly give into the fear and start to have cold sweats in my hands and my legs would start to literally tremble. The trembling will move its way up to my hands and they would shake uncontrollably. That happened during one of my presentations in my Popular Culture class. I did not notice that I was shaking until I looked down to read my notes. It is a pain in the ass to not be able to face a small crowd. How would I ever do a stand up comedy? I’m just joking about the stand up comedy.

My number four would be to strike a lottery, big. I used to follow my mother and grandmother to buy the lottery when I was young. And the one that usually strikes was always my grandmother. I remember telling my mother this, “Don’t buy until you’re 60 like grandma. Only old people have the luck to strike the lottery.” The first thing I would do after striking that is to get a motorcyclist license and then buy a very sporty motorbike. Just imagine riding through the traffic without being stuck in it. Then I would spend my money on a brand new Aston Martin without my father’s knowledge. Why? Because when it comes to buying a car, my father has absolutely no luck and would make all the wrong choices and get my mother mad because he bought a bad car without telling her about it. Then I would buy a house. Preferably a condominium because less room to clean up. But since I have the money, a bungalow would not a bad choice either. Or those unique self designed houses you see on TV that are built with environmental friendly materials. I could hire cleaners to come over every day to clean up after myself. Throw a big house warming party and get people to jump into the swimming pool with all their clothes still on.

Number five is a little exaggerating but still this is something I would like to do before I kick the bucket. My number eight would be to purchase a lot of lands. Do you know how much a plot of land is worth nowadays? With housing developments blooming everywhere, I would make a fortune if I ever sell my lands. I could die happily by getting buried in a golden casket with money spreaded all around me.

I have always wanted to have a pet but my parents would not approve. So I usually spent my time playing or feeding my neighbor’s dogs. My number six would be to have lots and lots of pets. I like to have a Golden Retriever, a Husky, a Jack Russell, a Beagle, and even a Shiba Inu because this breed is known to be the most loyal dog of all. Watch “Hachiko” the movie and even you would want one.

Number seven is something I have recently wanted. Two years ago I picked up a guitar and wanted to seriously learn how to play it. But now I still sound like a train wreck. I want to be musically talented. I want to be able to play the guitar, piano, drums and maybe even a saxophone. I get so jealous whenever i listen to people play their instruments with ease and how easy it is to them to write out a song. I used to ask my mother why she did not send me to piano classes like all my other friends when I was young.

Number eight would be to learn martial arts. I am easily amazed by anything. So whenever I watch a Kung Fu movie I would go “Woah!!” or “Wow!!” Or whenever I watch a live martial arts performance, I would think, I want to do that too. The world is a dangerous place so it would be wise to master or at least learn a self defense art. Then maybe I could be like Michelle Yeoh and star in the new Bond movie and shoot myself straight up to stardom.

Number nine would be to learn how to dance. Recently I have been watching a lot of Korean music videos and their dance moves are so cool. I feel like I can do it but when I do, I end up twisting some part of my body that is not very comfortable getting it untwisted. Ballroom dance is also interesting to learn. It would come in handy if I ever get invited to a formal function that requires dancing. I learned a couple moves of it when I was in school. It was for an event we were having but we did not get use our new moves. It was kind of a letdown since we practiced it for hours.

Number ten would be to learn multilingual languages. Right now i am fluent with English, Mandarin, Bahasa and recently Cantonese. I have longed been interested in learning Japanese but my brain just refuses to accept anymore input of it. Same goes to Korean and it is so frustrating. My father's side can speak Hokkien but nobody ever taught me the language. Not even my grandparents. And as for my mother's side, most of them can speak Portuguese because they are Portuguese mix with Eurasians. I used to feel strange because my mother is so Chinese. I later found out that she and her brother, my uncle, were adopted by my grandparents. My mother's family tree is very complicated because people those days used to adopt children as easy as pie.

Number eleven is to learn how to use a firearm. I have tried archery and I love it. Now I want to go up a notch and try how it feels like to fire a gun. I think it would be a good stress releaser. A shooting range with lots of targets to shoot at is enough for me as long as I can paste the pictures of those I do not like on it.

I always wanted to do stupid daring stunts. And guess what my number twelve is? Bungee jumping! Yes, bungee jumping. You must be thinking “Is this girl for real?” Well, part of me really wants to do it and I have been thinking of it for a very long time. And if you are wondering, yes I have also considered sky diving but I concluded that I still value my life at this age and I still have nine other things I want to do before I die. What if my main and reserve parachute does not open? Or what if a rat ate through the ropes? Or what if I land into a pit of wild animals? That would not be a very nice way to go. The funeral undertakers would have to work overtime to get me done nice and pretty for my funeral or else my half eaten face would scare off my mourners. Friend or foe, I hope people do show up for my funeral. At least there are safety nets for bungee jumping. You only have your parachute for sky diving and I am not stupid enough to jump out of a plane flying thousands of feet up in the air.

Number thirteen is more or less like number eleven because this also involves using a parachute. But only for emergencies. I am talking about piloting an airplane. There are not many female pilots so it would be nice to be up there spinning around and feeling like superman confined in a little airplane seat without a cape. And of course I mean by flying a small airplane, not the ones that carries hundreds and thousands of passengers whose lives you hold dearly in your hands. I am bad when it comes to dealing with stress. So the little private planes would do just fine for me.

Now number forthteen is a very interesting idea to do before I go. No offence, but I would love to open a non halal fast food restaurant here in Malaysia. Just imagine the juicy pork burger filling your mouth with its flavor and aroma. The first time I have seen a real pork burger in a fast food restaurant was when I was in Thailand with my family. We were in a shopping complex and we wanted to have lunch. We saw McDonald’s and decided to go in and get some Spicy Chicken McDeluxe and Fillet’O’Fish burgers. And that was when I saw it. The most amazing burger I have ever seen in my entire life. The Thais call it, Samurai Burger. But here in Malaysia we only have chicken, fish, and beef burgers. If we ever want to have a pork burger we have to do-it-yourself (D.I.Y). Again, no offence to anyone, Hindus cannot eat beef and there are beef burgers everywhere so why not pork? I am sure my restaurant would be a hit. I just hope the government does not come after me for an unreasonable reason.

My number fifteen would be to experience winter snow. Malaysia is an all time summer type of country and even though we have our rainy seasons from time to time, i still wished that the Earth would somehow go upside down and let us have a go with winter for once. If that wish still does not come true then there is always an airplane to fly me to Aspen to enjoy the resorts there.

Number sixteen, now we’re talking! I have always dreamt of migrating out of Malaysia. And with all the fights between the Malays, Chinese and Indians about rights in Malaysia, it just makes me want to leave even more. I would gladly kick the bucket naturally in a foreign land than get killed here. Australia has been on my mind since I was 16. But England is not bad because I have relatives living there for over 20 years. I used to joke with my family that my uncles paid my aunt to migrate to England just to get rid of her. I could bump into Simon Cowell there, or even Jamie Oliver and he could cook for me. How cool would that be?

Number seventeen is a funny thing to do. When I first started UCSI, I found out that most of my senior could speak in different accents. One could speak like a Hong Konger, one could speak like an Irishman and one could speak old English that is very hard to understand even though it is still in English. So my friend and I came to conclude that we should develop a foreign accent just like our seniors to show to our own juniors. I can do a little Tamil and Italian accent. But most of it is just something I pick up from the TVs and radios. And if I am living in another country then the leaning process of developing a foreign accent would be much smoother but a very embarrassing way to learn.

I read magazines, entertainment magazines and I just envy the celebrities that always appear in it. In every issue I read, I would go into la-la-land and imagine what it would be like if I were there standing right next to Steve Martin? This is my number eighteen where I would just die to meet with the people who make our lives entertaining with their movies and music. Imagine having Justin Timberlake suddenly appearing beside you to sing Sexy Back. I would die right on the spot.
Previously I have mentioned about bumping into Jamie Oliver in England. Well that is actually my number nineteen to do before I kick the bucket. I like watching Jamie Oliver cook because he makes it look so easy to roast a chicken, cook up some pasta or just boil up some plain soup. Jamie Oliver cooking with me in my perfectly gorgeous house. He is going to be my live in chef for the rest of his life. Or until another good looking young chef arrives.

And last but not least, number twenty. I saved the best for last. Not everyone wants to end up growing old all alone. I most certainly would not want that. Maybe get married and have a family when I am 30. Have a boy first and then a girl. He can take care of his sister and his sister to approve of her brother’s girlfriend in the future. I just feel weird by the thought of having kids of my own. I have not met anyone yet but maybe someday, that special person would appear in front of me while I am waiting for the rain to stop in 7/11. The guy has to be good looking of course. This is something I would want before I kick the bucket. Preferably well built with chocolate abs. Tall and tanned. Understanding and a real old school gentleman. It is so hard to find a gentleman anywhere these days. The only gentleman I have ever known in UCSI has been long gone because he ran away to Nottingham after his foundation year.
